Letters from West Africa
6 weeks 45 days in the fishing town of Benin
a suitcase and a thesis
Wouldn't you be curious to get a glimpse of life in the fishing village of West Africa? My name is Anna, I'm painter and a rookie-scientist in training. During the winter, I was grinding my way through a series of failed experiments and feeling the existential dread setting in a bit too vividly. One day, an email popped into my junk-folder. It was a call for applications for a residency program in the small town of Grand Popo, right at the coast of Benin. I hesitated, but out of sheer desperation for a change of scenery finally decided to apply.
This blog is about getting accustomed to the bright sun and the humidity of the sea.
It's about the joy of meeting new people, eating, drinking and dancing
... and writing out the PhD thesis.
Hope you enjoy!
